Goodbye, my beautiful sister

My sweet sister Pebbles passed away in mom’s arms Monday morning. She was almost 18. She was the sweetest and the happiest girl I’ve ever known. She was always smiling. She was always so happy. She had so much love to give.

Goodbye, Pebbles. We love you forever.

My poor sister…

Hi all, it’s been a while. I thought I’d post some pictures.

My sister Pebbles had seizures on Wednesday. Mom thought she was dying. It was horrible. She got medications and they did blood test. She’s ok for now. No seizures so far. But she hasn’t slept much. I think maybe she’s afraid to sleep because it happened while she was asleep. Mom hasn’t slept much either. She says whenever she closes her eyes she sees that awful image of Pebbles having a seizure. I hope it won’t happen again. She’s so small. And old. I think she’s about 17. She’s been always healthy for her age though. SprightIy. I know I’m not exactly lovey-dovey touchy-feely snuggly-wuggly brother but I like having her around.

She’s my sister.

Hey all..

Hey guys, how are you all doing? It’s been a while, I know. *hangs head*

I went to see Dr. Bone today. He’s an orthopedic surgeon. Yup. ;o)

20121015_104252

After the last thyroid test, my vet suggested we go see a neurologist. She thought my problem was maybe neurological or muscle related issue. So we went to see a neurologist last month. He was really nice. And I behaved very well while he poked and pulled and twisted and manipulated my limbs.

He said there was some peripheral neuropathy. But he thinks the problem is more orthopedic than neurological. He recommended physical therapy and an appointment with another orthopedic specialist. ( Not the one who did the surgeries, nope. )

He didn’t think it was DM (Degenerative Myelopathy) but we opted for the test, just to make sure.

The result was back 2 weeks later. I have no DM. *relieved sigh*

So, I saw Dr. Bone today. Actually he was one of two surgeons we saw before the TPLO surgery. I wonder if things would’ve been different If we picked him last year…

Our options are; We can go for surgeries to fuse joint on all 3 legs. And maybe another surgery on the same knee. It’s gonna take about a year to do them all. Prognosis not definitive.

Or we can go for physical therapy.

I prefer the latter.

*woof*

Nah…I don’t think so…

I went for another checkup the other day. (so many checkups I lost count..) My surgeon wants to try another lateral suture. Another??? You must be kidding.
I still walk funny and there’s something wrong with my ankles. He thinks it’s congenital defect or something. Osteochondrosis? Probably got worse due to my coccidioidomycosis aka valley fever.. Anyways he wants to do another lateral suture on my knee… Well, since he botched it in the first place I understand he’s trying to do everything he can but… another??  It’s unlikely I can run again like before, he said. Out of the question. And he even said there’s no guarantee this one would improve my condition. so… should I let him?
Mom & dad just doesn’t want me to go through that again. And neither do I. Nope. I’d rather eat poop. No way.
Mom’s thinking about laser therapy. My vet just started doing it so we might give it a try.
On the brighter side, my last titer showed my level went down. I am off fluconazole! Woohoooo! I’ve been taking the medication for a year! We’ll do another titer next month to see if it stays down, the vet said. Hope it stays down… *paws crossed*
It’s getting hot here already... Stay cool everybody!
*woof*

I survived another surgery..

Hey all, I’m back. Back inside the pen, that is…

20111206_151938

I had another surgery on Monday. TPLO. I don’t wanna talk about it. Nope. Mom had nightmares all night long. But Doc said it’d gone well. ( he said that last time too..) I cried all the way home. Mom cried with me. She thought I was in pain. But as soon as we got home I stopped crying.

They put splint this time, as a precaution. Next week they’re gonna change it to soft bandage. It’s really cumbersome to walk on it so it helps keep me off my feet, which is good. But mom’s also worried it puts more pressure on the other leg when I go out to pee.

Well, the worst part is over. Now I have a long journey ahead of recuperation and rehabilitation. I know the bunnies are waiting for me. And I look forward to going back to Dog Beach next summer.

Thank you all for the kind words and love. Thank you.

*woof*

Another surgery?!?!?!?

I got a bad news. I need another surgery. I can’t believe this is happening…

We went for post surgery checkup on Monday. Dog said the bone popped. The bone?!?! My bone?!?! How did this happen? When did this happen? We thought I was healing nicely. Mom was worried about suture band breaking off but the bone? The bone?? Doc said it was extremely rare. Unheard of.

Mom knew Lateral Suture Technique was usually for small dogs but he was so confident… When did this happen? Right after the surgery? During checkup?

The thing is I went back right after surgery because it was red. They said it was ok. And then the week after the surgery I went back again because I developed seroma. They said warm compress 3~4 times a day. So we did and it went away. We followed all orders and I was confined. Mom was watching me 24 hours a day.

Doc said we don’t have to worry about the cost of next surgery. Gee I really hope so. My humans are starving. We’re in debt.

Another surgery… Dog help me…*sobs*

Mom’s depressed. She’s mad, sad, worried, going a little paranoid. How she wishes it was her, instead of me…

So, another surgery next week. Doc’s gonna do either another suture or TPLO this time.

Sorry for the bad news.

*woof*

Confined… *whiiiiiine*

Convalescing.. recuperating.. whatever.. I am confined! This is so not happening..

On the day of my surgery the surgeon doctor did something while I slept. When I woke up I found I was NOT home. I cried and cried and cried and cried. All night long. Mom wanted to come down so bad but she didn’t in the end because she’d have to leave eventually and it’d be harder for both of us. But she came to see me early next morning. I was still crying. I was so happy to see her. I peed a lot. I saw a rabbit too. I tried to chase it. She said no. She gave me some food. I drank gallons of water and wanted more. They said no. She left. I cried.

2011-10-08 07.50.362011-10-08 07.50.43

5 hours later they called mom and said I was ready to go home. I came home. HOME!!! Wait. What is this? I have to be confined? Inside this play pen thingy? When did mom get this? This sucks..

2011-10-09 09.09.582011-10-09 09.30.05

Mom had to be inside the pen with me for a while. Good thing she’s small. I moved to the bathroom at night so I could see mom in bed.  I still cried and cried.

2011-10-09 17.17.17

So she’s camping out in the living room these days. She sleeps right by my prison. I mean my pen.

The one silver lining out of the dismal situation is food. She’s been cooking all my favorite food. *drools*

Is Pebbles throwing tantrum because she’s feeling a bit neglected? or…..
